Sick Pets/ Pet Hospice Care
When a member of your family is sick or becomes so old that they need extra care, you feel a need to be there with them to take care of them. Your pets are an integral part of your family and are often your "children". It is a difficult decision trying to decide how much time to spend with them to take care of them because of work or other commitments. Sometimes, it is difficult or impossible for the client to be able to physically provide the care the pet needs.
Lucky Pet at Home can help relieve some of your stress by taking care of your sick or elderly pets when you are unable to. Our staff is specially trained to provide the best care possible for your pets in conjunction with your vet -- whether they are sick or so old they need extra care or if they are living out their last few days in the familiar surroundings and comfort of their home. Whatever the need, we are there to help.
Because of the specialized nature of caring for sick and elderly pets, you MUST call Lucky Pet to schedule these services the first time to make sure we have all the information we need to provide proper care for your pet.
Visit - Medication or Fluids Administration ONLY
To assist with administering medication to your pet when the client is not available to administer it or is unable to
No other services provided during this type of service -- regular visits can be scheduled if other services are needed
Can assist with the administration of oral (pills, tablets, liquids), transdermal (creams) and injected medications, and subcutaneous fluids (fluids under the surface of the skin) that the vet has prescribed for you to administer at home
Pets must be reasonably compliant during the administration of the medication -- if the medication can not be safely administered, Lucky Pet will consult with the client and/or the vet to determine a way to safely administer the medication
We can NOT assist with administering IV fluids or IV medications unless the IV site is already in place and can only assist you with administering medications the vet has approved you to administer at home
Small additional charge for insulin injections or subcutaneous fluid administration and additional time may be required for administering subcutaneous fluids depending on vet instructions
Client is responsible for providing all supplies and medications
Monitor the pet briefly and go over what the client needs to watch for after the medication is administered, if necessary
Visit - Bandaging Change
To assist with the cleaning of injuries or surgical incisions and changing, replacing or securing bandages based on vet instructions
Length of visit based on what needs to be done for the pet
No other services provided during this type of service -- regular visits can be scheduled if other services are needed
Client is responsible for providing all supplies and medications
Depending on the difficulty of the cleaning or bandage change or the weight of the pet, additional Pet Care Providers may be required to ensure the safety and comfort of the pet
Visit - Pet Mobility
To assist with the mobility of the pet when they have difficulty walking due to age, illness, medical condition, or injury
Length of visit based on what needs to be done for the pet
Can help get the pet outdoors or back in the house, up stairs or into bed when the client is not able to
Pets are assisted or moved using a special sling or blankets for the safety and comfort of the pet
Depending on the weight of the pet, additional Pet Care Providers may be required to safely move the pet
Visit - Sick Pet - Specialized Feeding
To assist with feeding a sick or elderly pet that is not eating properly
Length of visit based on food preparation time and how long it takes to get the pet to consume the recommended amount of food
Feeding or administering water through a tube or orally with a syringe based on vet instructions
Successful feeding is not guaranteed and is based on the ability and desire of the pet to swallow or eat
Preparation of the pet's food as directed by the vet
Client is responsible for providing all supplies and food
Cleaning of pet and supplies after feeding
Visit - Sick Pet - Regular Visits
Care for a sick pet that needs someone to stop by and check on their well-being
Can administer medications during the visit -- small additional charge for insulin injection or subcutaneous fluid administration
Monitor the condition of the pet and report changes to the client and/or the vet, as needed
Can check on the placement of e-collars and bandaging and adjust/replace as necessary
Assist with pet mobility and check that pet is going to the bathroom, eating, drinking, etc.
Visit - Sick Pet - Blocks of Time and Overnights
Can assist with the administration of oral (pills, tablets, liquids), transdermal (creams) and injected medications, and subcutaneous fluids (fluids under the surface of the skin) that the vet has prescribed for you to administer at home
Pets must be reasonably compliant during the administration of the medication -- if the medication can not be safely administered, Lucky Pet will consult with the client and/or the vet to determine a way to safely administer the medication
Visit - Pet Hospice Care - Visits, Blocks of Time and Overnights
Care for a pet that is terminally ill that will be living out their final days in the familiar surroundings and comfort of their home and needs constant attention or around-the-clock care to provide for their comfort and pain management
Care provided based on vet instructions for at-home care
Can assist with the administration of oral (pills, tablets, liquids), transdermal (creams) and injected medications, and subcutaneous fluids (fluids under the surface of the skin) that the vet has prescribed for you to administer at home
Pets must be reasonably compliant during the administration of the medication -- if the medication can not be safely administered, Lucky Pet will consult with the client and/or the vet to determine a way to safely administer the medication
Assist with feeding or administering water to a sick or elderly pet that is not eating or drinking properly
Assist with pet mobility and check that pet is going to the bathroom, eating, drinking, etc.
